Mental Health First Aid - 2 Days

RQF Level 3 Award:

FAA Level 3 Award in Supervising First Aid for Mental Health (RQF)

SCQF Level 6 Award:

Award in Leading First Aid for Mental Health at SCQF Level 6

This course builds on the Level 2/5 Award in First Aid for Mental Health and covers a wider range of mental health conditions, and goes into detail on the range of therapy and professional support that a person may be given by professional bodies during treatment for a mental health condition.

The course is suitable for all persons within a workplace, but is aimed at those who hold a supervisory/managerial level position and who have responsibility for implementing a positive mental health culture and responsibility for First Aid for Mental Health within an organisation.

• Identifying mental health conditions
• Providing advice and starting a conversation
• Drugs and alcohol
• First Aid for Mental Health action plan
• First Aid for Mental Health in the workplace
• A large range of Mental Health conditions covered in detail

Course Duration

This course runs over 12 hours spread over at least 2 days. Ideally, the course should be run over two consecutive days, but we have the flexibility to accommodate your specific needs if you so desire, provided it is completed within 10 weeks of starting the course and the training sessions last for a minimum of two hours

By the end of the course, delegates will have:

• An in-depth understanding of mental health and the factors that can affect well-being.
• Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues
• Confidence to step in, reassure and support a person in distress.
• Enhanced interpersonal skills such as non-judgmental listening.
• Knowledge to help someone recover their health by guiding them to further support - whether that’s self-help resources, through their employer, the NHS, or a mix.

Delegates will have a greater understanding of mental health and well-being and will be able to recognise common triggers of mental ill health and signs that someone may need support. You will develop non-judgmental listening skills along with the confidence to reassure and support a person who may be experiencing mental ill health and guide them to a source of further support for recovery.

Assessment

Summative practical assessment is ongoing by the instructor each day, along with a written assessment on each day. A Level 3 Award in Supervising First Aid for Mental Health will be issued to the learner, subject to successful assessment. No external assessors are required.

Certification 

Upon successful completion of the qualification assessment, Learners will be awarded the Ofqual-regulated Level 3 Award in Supervising First Aid for Mental Health. This will be provided by NUCO Training.
