Course Details

F1 Training Services UK Ltd is delivering the Qualsafe Level 3 Award in First Response Emergency Care (RQF) courses. The leading Level 3 Prehospital care qualification, Qualsafe Level 3 Award in First Response Emergency Care (RQF). Equipping first responders with essential life saving skills, exceeding HSE first aid requirements, it forms the first step of a progressive suite of prehospital care qualifications.

You will fulfil the competencies set out in the PHEM skills framework at level D, gaining the knowledge and practical skills needed to deal with a range of prehospital emergency care situations.

Who is this qualification for?

This qualification is the perfect fit for individuals looking to work or volunteer as a first responder. It is also suitable for emergency services, security personnel, those providing medical cover at events, and
those working in high risk environments including the military, power stations, offshore, agriculture and manufacturing

Among the first to arrive at a scene, first responders typically include police officers, firefighters, and those providing medical cover at festivals and events such as Emergency/Community First Responders, Door Supervisors, Close Protection Operatives and Security Guards as well as those working in high risk environments including the military, power stations, agriculture and manufacturing.

Course Content:

This informative, hands-on 5-day course fulfils the competencies set out in the PHEM skills framework at descriptor level D, providing the knowledge and practical skills needed to deal with a range of prehospital emergency care situations.

Course covers:

  • Role and responsibilities of a first responder
  • Operational readiness and human factors
  • Emergency services capabilities
  • Structured patient assessment
  • Mechanism of injury and incident
  • Life threatening bleeding control
  • Airway management and emergency oxygen
  • Breathing difficulties (trauma and medical)
  • Prehospital trauma care
  • Prehospital emergency medical care
  • Responding to changes in risk and/or threat
  • Primary triage (Ten Second Triage) and lifesaving interventions
  • Moving and handling: in an emergency and assisting a clinician
  • Recording assessment findings
  • Environmental exposure
  • Immersion and submersion incidents
  • Adult, child and infant BLS and AED usage

Qualsafe - FREC3 Course Specification

Assessment

Qualsafe Awards has devised externally set, internally marked assessment tools to make sure Learners are assessed against the required knowledge, skills and understanding, as detailed in the learning
outcomes and assessment criteria shown in Appendix 1. Centres should download all assessment papers from the QA course pack in advance of the course. Within the components, there are:

• Practical assessments – observed by the Trainer throughout the course, with the results of each  learning outcome recorded on the practical assessment paperwork. There are 6 mandatory and 5 optional practical assessments for this qualification:

Mandatory:
1. Adult basic life support
2. Child basic life support
3. Infant basic life support
4. Airway and ventilation skills
5. Prehospital emergency trauma care
6. Prehospital emergency medical care

Optional:
1. Supraglottic airway device
2. Inhaled analgesia (Nitrous Oxide)
3. Inhaled analgesia (Penthrox)
4. Administration of naloxone
5. Blood glucose measurement

Theory assessments:

Invigilated exam, has a pass mark of 16 out of 21 questions and a maximum time of 30 minutes to
complete

Multiple choice question paper – 1 paper for each Learner and Learners should answer all the
questions under ‘examination’ conditions. • Maximum time allowed for the multiple choice question paper is 60 minutes, the minimum mark
is 28 out of 40 to be considered for an overall ‘Pass’

There are 2 possible grades available of Pass or Fail. All mandatory areas of assessment must individually meet or exceed the required pass criteria/mark for the Learner to achieve this qualification

Certification:

Successful learners will receive a nationally recognised qualification, a personalised Qualsafe Level 3 Award in First Response Emergency Care (RQF) e-Certificate will be issued as soon as received by F1 Training Services UK Ltd, printed certificates will follow approximately 2 weeks after the course end date.
