HABC Level 3 Award in Education & Training / First Aid Instructor (QCF)


This qualification is essential those entering the teaching industry, as well as anyone currently teaching or wishing to teach their subject specialism. F1 Training Services are now offering this course in conjunction with a First Aid Instructor’s course.

The course will be delivered  in a classroom environment.

What are the entry requirements for this qualification

Learners must be aged 19 or over to be eligible for this course. There are no entry requirements for the HABC Level 3 Award section, candidates should be experienced and have undertaken a 3 Day First Aid at Work course before registering for the First Aid Instructor award. Learners should be prepared to deliver part of the First Aid course as part as the assessment.

How is it achieved?

Learners must produce a portfolio of evidence that will meet the learning outcomes for the units that the learner selects to achieve. They must also complete a practical assessment which consists of a 20 minute micro-teach session delivered as part of the programme, where both tutor and peer feedback will be given. The assessment will be on the First Aid skills you have been taught throughout the course.

  • How we learn. Why we learn. Problems of learning etc.
  • First aid knowledge test
  • Practical simulation scenarios all through the sessions.
  • Facilitation exercises all through the course.
  • Use of power point presentations

  • Top to Toe examination

  • Bandaging

First Aid Training Services Instructor Course

The course is variable to the student’s needs. Course criteria from UK Resuscitation Council procedures and tripartite Red Cross / St Johns / St Andrews First Aid Manual. You will be issued you our own First Aid at Work manual but you will require the above manual available from most large booksellers.

On arrival on the first day the candidate will be required to give a five to ten minute informal demonstration on the subject allocated.

The course will culminate on the third day giving you adequate preparation time for the main twenty minute assessed lesson.

Power point training packages are available for the student for use on the course.

We will notify you of the random subjects chosen for you. Training manual will be sent to you. Timetable and course information below, though this will vary to suit the specific group and individual needs.

Prepared Practical Skills Demonstration

You prepare for a 5 – 10 minute presentation from selected subjects below .

  •  Arm sling and elevation Sling
  •  Mouth to mouth and chest compressions cycles ( No breathing check etc.)
  •  D.R.A.B. / C.
  •  Choking Procedures
  •  Eye examination
  •  Splint a lower leg fracture
  •  Many uses of a Triangular Bandage ( improvisation )
  •  Undressing outer clothes and footwear

Group positive feedback and input.

First Aid Power Point Presentation of 10 minutes duration prepared on course. Subject chosen by organiser.

Final main assessment of 20 minutes duration (this will qualify as the assessment required for Level 3 Award in Educations & Training qualification)

Main First Aid Subject Allocation

You prepare for a 20 minute presentation from the selected subjects below .

  • Cause recognition and treatment of Electrical injuries
  • Spinal injuries – Causes recognition and treatment
  • The Blood Circulation system and the recognition and treatment of angina
  • Shock Condition Understanding—Aim recognition causes and treatment
  • General Recognition and Treatment for Wounds and Bleeding. Treatment in relation to varicose veins
  • Examination and management of an Unconscious Casualty
  • Types of Burns and general recognition. Treatment of a chemical burn to the arm
  • Describe HSE recommended and supplementary First Aid box contents. Demonstrate the use of a large sterile dressing and the application of a sterile adhesive dressing (plaster)
