Catastrophic Bleeding

This course is designed to enable First Aiders to initiate emergency procedures when arriving at a scene where catastrophic bleeding or a neck/spinal injury may be present.

Course covers

  • DRABC
  • Top to Toe
  • Recovery Position.
  • Different wound types and treatments – Head, Neck, Ear, Nose, Mouth, Face, Arm, Hand, Finger, Chest, Abdomen, Pelvis, Leg, Ankle, Foot.

Related shock condition.

  • Basic Circulation anatomy – Capillary, Venous, and arterial bleeding.
  • Use of a sterile dressing.
  • Practical scenario training in packing wounds.
  • Use of Haemostatic agents – Granules and Gauze. Celox, Quick Clot, Wound Clot, etc.
  • Use of pressure dressings such as – Israeli, Olaes, Blast, Crepe

Practical bandaging using the above dressing to hands, arms, legs, feet, and head.

  • Improvised dressings using narrow or broad-fold triangular bandages.
  • Understanding the use or non-use of a tourniquet.
  • Different models of tourniquets.
  • Improvised use of Israeli dressing into tourniquets.
  • Practical use of CAT tourniquet.
  • Demo of other tourniquets.

Ongoing assessment including a Q&A session.

This course could be extended on request to include all the Annual Refresher criteria.

Certification

The course does not renew first aid certificates or extend the validity period of your certificate. It is for practice and refreshing skills only. A completion certificate will be issued for CPD records. 

Duration - This 3-4 hour training package can be tailored to meet your requirements.
