The aim of this course is to provide an understanding of the relationship between food hygiene, food poisoning and food spoilage, the socio-economic costs of poor food hygiene, and the role of HACCP and hazard analysis in ensuring food safety.

Examinations:
REHIS - An examination will take place at the end of the course, this consists of a twenty question short answer paper that is set out by REHIS. Candidates will be allowed two and a half hours to complete this. The pass mark is 60%, candidates achieving 80% or more at their first attempt at the examination will be awarded a credit pass. Should any candidates fail the examination, a resit must be taken within 12 months of sitting the original examination.
HABC - This qualification is assessed through a 60-question multiple-choice question examination. The duration of the examination is 2 hours. Successful learners must achieve a score of at least 40 out of 60 in order to pass. Learners will receive a Merit if they achieve 50 out of 60. Following the assessment, a list of results will be provided to the centre contacts stating whether learners have passed or failed. Certificates for those who are successful will be dispatched for distribution by the centre contacts.
